Catch the beauty before it fades🌸

Every cherry blossom season growing up, my mother packed us lunch.
She would fill a large bento box with onigiri, tamagoyaki, simmered vegetables, and we'd spread out a blanket under the trees with the rest of the family.
Sakura are only truly beautiful for a couple of days. You have a short window to enjoy them, and if you miss it because of unexpected rainfall or strong winds, you have to wait until next year. There's a word in Japanese for the moment the petals start to fall like snow — 桜吹雪 (sakura fubuki). It's not the bloom that moves you. It's knowing the window is closing.
桜吹雪 (さくらふぶき) — sakura fubuki n. | Japanese
A flurry of cherry blossom petals falling like snow; the fleeting moment when blossoms leave the tree. Often experienced in early spring, and gone before you are ready.
I've been thinking about that a lot lately watching my son. He's a toddler with a lot of energy, picking up new words in both English and Japanese, just absorbing everything around him. Every few months he's already someone a little different. It's that same feeling: not sad, just... present. As his mother, I am wanting to actually notice it while it's happening.
April's box theme is Sakura: Ephemeral Beauty. Everything inside was chosen as an invitation to pay attention. To the season, to the people around you, and the small rituals that are easy to rush past. We will be opening our orders again next week (April 5th) for you all to join us. If you've been meaning to signup, get on our waitlist and stay tuned for updates!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. If you've been waiting, I hope this box gives you a reason to pause and appreciate all the beautiful, fleeting things around you.
With gratitude,
Paper Bento
