Paper Bento is a monthly stationery subscription thoughtfully curated in Japan and the U.S. Each box is designed to support slow journaling, reflection, and intentional creativity. Expect high-quality Japanese stationery, writing tools, and paper goods chosen with care.

1. How the Subscription Works

 How does the Paper Bento subscription work?

Paper Bento is a monthly stationery subscription delivered once per month. When you sign up, you choose between two options:

•  Monthly Subscription: Auto-renews each month until you cancel
• 6-Month Prepaid: Pay upfront for 6 months of boxes

Each box is thoughtfully curated with Japanese stationery items designed to support reflection, journaling, and slow moments in your day. 

 

What do I receive?

You’ll receive one Paper Bento box each month, featuring a curated selection of Japanese stationery items. Each box follows a monthly theme and includes items chosen to inspire writing, reflection, and everyday rituals.

 

 

When does my first box ship?

Your first box will be the current month’s box if you subscribe before the monthly cutoff date.

• Orders placed before the cutoff → receive the upcoming box
• Orders placed after the cutoff → start with the following month’s box

When do boxes ship?

Paper Bento boxes typically ship once per month, during the second half of the month.

You’ll receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking when your box is on its way.

Will I know what I’m getting?

Each month, we share a preview of the current box on the website so you have a general idea of the theme and featured items.

Are items the same every month?

No — each box is unique. While some categories/popular products may repeat (pens, paper goods, tools), the combination of items will change every month.

 

3. Subscription Plans & Commitment

What subscription options are available?

Monthly Subscription - $43 per month

• Auto-renews on the 5th of each month
• Cancel anytime with 14 days' notice before billing cutoff (5th of every month)

6-Month Prepaid Subscription - 240 total ($40/month)

• Pay once upfront for 6 consecutive months
• Cancel anytime with 80% refund on unused months
• Save $18 compared to monthly
• Our best value 

Plus $8 shipping per box (not included in subscription price). Taxes calculated at checkout.  

When will I be charged?

Monthly Subscription:

• Your first payment is charged at checkout 
• Subsequent payments are charged on the 5th of each month
• Auto-renews until you cancel 

6-Month Prepaid:

• Full payment ($240) charged at checkout 
• Covers all 6 months of boxes
• Does not auto-renew
  
  

Can I cancel my subscription? 

As of February 17th 2026, we have launched our Cancllation Policy to allow all cancellations for our subscription plans. To cancel, email hello@paperbento.store at least 14 days before the 5th of the month (by the 19th).

 Monthly Subscription:

• No cancellation fee
• Your subscription ends after your current billing period 
• You'll still receive the box you've already paid for

6-Month Prepaid:

• Receive 80% refund on unused months 
• Example: Cancel after 1 month, you have 5 months remaining ($200 value). You'll receive $160 refund (80% of $200)

Why do you keep 20% on 6-month cancellations?

The 6-month subscription is discounted to reward commitment. Given that we purchase our products from Japan, planning happens months ahead of time. When you prepay, we allocate inventory and plan our operations based on your subscription. The 20% we retain reflects that we've reserved your spot and you've already benefited from the discounted rate. 

We believe this is fair, as you still get 80% back, while maintaining sustainable operations for our community. 

 

Does my subscription automatically renew?

Monthly Subscription: Yes, it auto-renews on the 5th of each month until you cancel. 

6-Month Prepaid: No, it does not auto-renew. If you'd like to continue receiving Paper Bento after your 6 months, you'll place a new order. 

 

4. Shipping & Payments

Where do you ship?

Currently, Paper Bento ships within the United States. International shipping may be offered in the future.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is $8 per box for all US destinations (standard shipping).

 

What if my payment fails?

If a monthly payment fails, you'll receive an email with instructions to update your payment method. Your subscription will resume once payment is successfully processed. You can update payment information by logging into your account.

5. Account & Support

How do I manage my subscription?

Once subscribed, you can log into your account to:

• View upcoming charges
• Update payment information
• Manage your subscription

To cancel, email hello@paperbento.store at least 14 days before the 5th (by the 19th). 

What if I have an issue with my box?

If something arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please reach out within 7 days of delivery with photos and your order number. We'll replace damaged items or offer a partial credit.
