Agreement to Terms

By accessing and using the Paper Bento website (paperbento.store) and purchasing products, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our website or purchase our products.

About Paper Bento

Paper Bento is operated by Natsuki Kimura, doing business as Paper Bento, based in Union City, California. We curate and sell Japanese stationery products through monthly subscription boxes.

Subscription Service

How Subscriptions Work

Paper Bento operates as a monthly stationery subscription service. When you subscribe, you select a subscription length:

  • Monthly Subscription: $43/month, auto-renews monthly
  • 6-Month Prepaid Subscription: $240 total (pay upfront for 6 months)

You will receive one curated box each month during your subscription period.

Billing and Payments

Monthly Subscriptions:

  • Billed on the 5th of each month
  • Auto-renews until you cancel
  • First payment charged at checkout

6-Month Prepaid Subscriptions:

  • Full payment ($240) charged at checkout
  • Covers 6 consecutive monthly boxes
  • Does not auto-renew (you choose whether to renew at the end)

Cancellation Policy

Both subscription types can be canceled anytime with 14 days’ notice. To cancel any subscription, email hello@paperbento.store at least 14 days before the 5th of the month (by the 19th).

Monthly Subscriptions:

  • Your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period
  • You’ll continue to receive your box for the month you’ve already paid for
  • No cancellation fees

6-Month Prepaid Subscriptions:

  • Receive 80% refund on unused months
  • Example: Cancel after 1 month, you have 5 months remaining ($200 value). You’ll receive $160 refund (80% of $200)
  • Refund processed within 7–10 business days

The 6-month subscription offers a discounted rate to reward commitment. The 20% we retain reflects that we’ve allocated inventory based on your subscription and you’ve already benefited from the discounted rate.

Cutoff Dates and Availability

  • Orders placed before the monthly cutoff date receive the current month’s box
  • Orders placed after the cutoff date start with the following month’s box
  • If we sell out before the cutoff date, orders will close for that month and you’ll need to wait until the following month to subscribe

Product Information

Accuracy

We strive to provide accurate product descriptions, images, and information. However:

  • Product packaging may vary from images shown
  • Colors may appear differently on different screens
  • Items are subject to availability
  • We reserve the right to limit quantities

Product Authenticity

All products sold by Paper Bento are authentic items from legitimate manufacturers. We do not sell counterfeit or replica items.

Box Contents

Each monthly box contains a curated selection of Japanese stationery items. Contents are not customizable and vary each month based on the monthly theme.

We reserve the right to substitute items of equal or greater value if any item becomes unavailable.

Pricing and Payment

Pricing

  • All prices are listed in US Dollars (USD)
  • Prices do not include shipping and taxes unless stated otherwise
  • Prices are subject to change without notice
  • We reserve the right to correct pricing errors

Payment

We accept:

  • Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover)
  • PayPal

Payment is processed through Shopify’s secure payment system. We do not store your credit card information.

Failed Payments

If a payment fails:

  • You will receive an email with instructions to update your payment method
  • Your subscription will resume once payment is successfully processed
  • You can update payment information by logging into your account
  • Important: If your payment information is not updated in a timely manner, your order will not be processed for that month. Please be aware that monthly boxes are limited in quantity, and we cannot guarantee that stock will remain available while your payment is unresolved. Paper Bento is not responsible for missed deliveries resulting from unresolved payment failures.

We strongly encourage you to resolve any payment issues promptly to secure your monthly box.

Summary:

  • Boxes ship once per month, typically during the second half of the month
  • US shipping only
  • 3–7 business days delivery via USPS, FedEx, UPS, or other carriers
  • Shipping costs calculated at checkout
  • PO Boxes not accepted

Returns, Cancellations, and Refunds

Cancellation Policy

Both subscription types can be canceled anytime by emailing hello@paperbento.store at least 14 days before the 5th of the month (by the 19th).

  • 6-Month prepaid: 80% refund on unused months

Damaged or Defective Items

If your box arrives with damaged or defective items:

  • Contact us within 7 days of delivery at hello@paperbento.store
  • Provide photos of damaged items and your order number
  • If the damaged or defective item is still available in our inventory, we will send a replacement at no charge
  • If the item is no longer available in our inventory, we will process a partial refund reflecting the value of the damaged or defective item

This policy applies to items damaged in transit and does not constitute a general return policy.

Incorrect Orders

If you receive an incorrect item or are missing items from your box:

  • Contact us within 7 days of delivery at hello@paperbento.store
  • We will send the correct or missing items

Privacy and Data

Personal Information

We collect and use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By using our website, you consent to our data practices.

Information We Collect

  • Name, email, shipping address
  • Payment information (processed securely by Shopify)
  • Order history and subscription details
  • Website usage data (cookies, analytics)

How We Use Information

  • To process and fulfill orders
  • To communicate about your orders and subscription
  • To provide customer support
  • To improve our products and services
  • To send updates about new products or features (if you opt-in)

Email Communications

By purchasing or signing up, you agree to receive:

  • Order confirmations and shipping notifications
  • Important account and subscription updates
  • Billing reminders

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” in any email. You cannot unsubscribe from transactional emails related to your order or subscription.

Intellectual Property

Our Content

All content on the Paper Bento website, including text, graphics, logos, images, product descriptions, blog posts, and website design is owned by Paper Bento and protected by copyright and trademark laws.

Use Restrictions

You may not:

  • Copy, reproduce, or distribute our content without permission
  • Use our brand name or logo without authorization
  • Create derivative works from our content
  • Use our content for commercial purposes

User-Generated Content

If you share photos, reviews, or other content about Paper Bento, you grant us permission to use your content in our marketing. We will credit you when possible and remove content upon request.

Limitation of Liability

Paper Bento is not liable for misuse of products, allergic reactions, injuries, or damage to property. We provide our website “as is” without warranties. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for your subscription.

Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Disputes shall be resolved through good faith negotiation, mediation, or binding arbitration in Alameda County, California. You agree to waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

Termination

We reserve the right to refuse service, cancel orders, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
