More Flexibility, Better Service: Updates to Our Subscription Options

We launched Paper Bento just this January, and your early support as a small business means the world to us. As we've grown these first few weeks, we've been listening closely to your feedback about what's working and what could be better.

Today, we're writing to share some important updates to our subscription options and cancellation policy based on what we've heard from you. We know change can be difficult, especially when you've just signed up, but we believe these changes will serve you and our community, much better in the long run.

If you are opted to our newsletter emails, you should have received an email with details about how this affects you. If you're considering joining us, read on to learn about our new structure.

What's New

Starting February 17th 2026, we're introducing two subscription options:

Monthly Subscription - $43/month

  • Auto-renews on the 5th of each month
  • Cancel anytime with 14 days' notice (email by the 19th to cancel starting the next month's billing on the 5th)
  • Perfect if you want maximum flexibility

6-Month Prepaid Subscription - $240 total

  • Save money with our discounted rate ($40/month vs $43/month)
  • Cancel anytime with 14 days' notice and receive 80% refund on unused months
  • Helps us plan better to serve you better

Why We're Making This Change

1. We Heard Your Feedback

Our previous commitment-based model didn't allow for cancellations during your commitment period. We heard from many of you that this felt restrictive. Life happens—circumstances change, budgets shift, priorities evolve. We get it.

Now, regardless of which option you choose, you can cancel anytime with 14 days' notice. No more feeling locked in.

2. Simplifying Your Experience

Previously, you had to manually renew your subscription at the end of each commitment period. We heard from subscribers who accidentally let their membership lapse because they forgot to renew.

With auto-renewal on the 5th of each month, you'll never have to worry about that again. Your subscription continues seamlessly unless you choose to cancel.

3. Growing Sustainably

As we've grown, we've learned that predictability helps us serve you better. When we can forecast demand more accurately, we can:

  • Ensure we always have adequate inventory
  • Plan improvements and new features
  • Keep our operations sustainable and our community thriving

The 6-month prepaid option helps with this planning while rewarding those who want to commit with a better rate.

Let's Talk About the 80% Refund

We want to be completely transparent about our refund policy for 6-month subscriptions.

If you choose the 6-month prepaid option and need to cancel before your 6 months are up, you'll receive 80% of the value of your unused months. Here's why we structured it this way:

The discounted rate rewards commitment.

When you prepay for 6 months, you're getting a discount compared to paying month-to-month. This discount reflects your commitment to stick with us. If you cancel early, you've still benefited from that discounted rate for the months you used.

We allocate resources based on your commitment.

When you sign up for 6 months, we plan our inventory and operations around serving you for that full period. If you cancel early, we've already committed resources and potentially missed the opportunity to offer that spot to someone else.

Here's an example:

You prepay $240 for 6 months. After 1 month, you need to cancel. You have 5 months remaining, which represents $200 of value. We'll refund you $160 (80% of $200). You keep the first month you used, we keep 20% to cover our operational costs, and you get back the majority of your prepayment.

We believe this is fair. You have the option to leave anytime and get most of your money back. At the same time, this will help us maintain sustainable operations for everyone in our community.

Important: How Cancellation Works

All subscriptions bill on the 5th of each month. To cancel any subscription, you need to email us at hello@paperbento.store at least 14 days before the 5th.

Example timeline:

  • Your next billing date: March 5th
  • Cancellation deadline: February 19th (14 days before March 5th)
  • What happens: You won't be billed on March 5th

This 14-day notice helps us manage our inventory and  ensure we're planning for the right amount of supplies for our community.

You're Always Welcome Back

If you need to cancel, we want you to feel good about coming back someday.

Maybe your budget is tight right now. Maybe you need to focus on other priorities. Maybe you just need a break. Whatever the reason, we understand. And when you're ready to return, we'll welcome you back with open arms.

This community is built on the idea that people come and go as life allows, and that's okay. We'll be here whenever you're ready.

What Happens to Current Subscriptions?

We're taking care of our existing subscribers. Here's exactly what will happen:

Your Current Commitment

  • You'll complete your existing commitment period with your current pricing—nothing changes
  • Your current terms remain the same until your commitment ends
  • We're now allowing cancellations even on existing commitments. Just email hello@paperbento.store at least 14 days before the 5th (by the 19th)

When Your Commitment Ends

  • You will renew your subscription with the new pricing plan. You'll select which new subscription option works best for you.
  • Your new plan will start on your next billing date (the 5th of the month)

Example:

  • Your current 3-month commitment ends: end of March
  • You choose your new plan: April 5th
  • Your new plan begins: April 5th
